Moving On

I'm alone and awake in my room
that just vomited
three years of accumulated
stuff

into a U-Haul and drove away.
The fan is blowing on high.
I light a candle on the carpet
to dispel evil spirits

that now seem to have free rein
without the totemic pictures
of my family on the walls.
I take a Tylenol

and try to sleep.
My aero-bed is slightly
under-inflated
and I imagine it feels

something like what
sleeping on a cloud
might feel like.
But this room

is a poor substitute
for the night sky:
a lot of empty space
and no stars.
